Reflection

Yes people, I hope you are all well! This is my final blog before Christmas break, and I am going to be reflecting on my semester, specifically the workshop I took part in for Digital Economy, in college.  For anyone that has been reading since day 1 (I know who you guys are) you would have seen different topics that I touch on week on week. These were the same topics that I studied in class. I found blogging about the topics afterwards enabled me to learn more and retain what my lecturer spoke about.  We were faced with the challenge of preparing and executing a workshop for our class. This began with us making a group of five. Firstly, we learned what a Gantt Chart was, and created our own. This showed a breakdown of the different parts of the project we each did and if it was individual work or team work. I found it really satisfying to see the different pieces of it come together.  Our topic for the workshop was "Enterprise Applications" and we were the first group up...

Introduction - Who am I?

Hello, my name is Jack Power.

I am in my final year in South East Technological University, studying business studies and specializing in Accounting. I will be using this platform to record and share my thoughts and new learnings in my "Digital Economy" module in my seventh semester.

For this week's blog, I will be diving into my time while on Work Placement, and how IT Systems impacted the time I spent there.

I began my work placement in January until June with PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) and I loved it!
I was a part of the Auditing department in Waterford. From the beginning of my placement I noticed how important IT Systems were to the organization. A prime example was Microsoft Excel. This is where I spent the high majority of my time while on placement, and believe me, there was a humongous difference in my skills in January in comparison to June.

I found PwC adapted to hybrid working magnificently from COVID-19, as all of their systems are online, through an internal software, called "Aura". Everything that was needed was run through Aura, from logging hours, to training, to then performing tasks for my particular jobs. As well as that, there was a system called "Connect" that allowed me to communicate with clients on jobs directly. For example, I would ask a client for a bank reconciliation on Connect, they would upload it, to where I would download it and work through Aura and upload my work.

Another way in which IT Systems held a great role in my workplace was through the use of Google's different functions. I used Google Chat and Google Meets every day for meetings and queries. This allowed for communication between myself and my colleagues from anywhere, be it in different offices or at home.

After finishing my placement, it allowed me to reflect on how vital IT Systems are in our world today and how much more it is going to evolve.

Thanks for reading this week's blog, I'll be back next week!

Jack.
